Since getting an SUV I was very eager to make a few mods to it without breaking the bank. I drove a small sedan before and finally upgraded to an SUV for the higher ground clearance, 4 wheel drive and more trunk space. There's a lot of logging roads leading to campgrounds which I couldn't take advantage of in the past. Now with the 4 wheel drive, I can finally go "off-roading" - essentially no street lamps. High beams, fog lights and headlights just weren't cutting it. I definitely needed something more powerful. A light bar with a farther throw lighting up everything in front was definitely on my radar. I spent a few weeks looking around for the most suitable light bar and I finally settled on this. Essentially a low profile, single row of CREE LEDs at a reasonable price point was my preferred option. I wasn't going to spend $1500+ on a Baha Design considering there are so many cheaper alternatives out there. Water ingress was the primary factor in failure for a lot of different brands and I'm sure it's no different for this. My luck would have that I simply don't want to permanently mount it on my vehicle. I just want a temporary solution whenever I go off-road. I don't want to attract attention from thieves and I don't want to deal with warranty issues should the seal on the light bar break or the individual LEDs fail. It's faster to set up since I don't have to measure or hide the cable. It would be a hassle to change out for a direct replacement and even more of a hassle if I were to buy a different brand and the size wasn't an exact match (requiring different brackets, mounts, electrical connectors, etc). Instead I opted for magnetic mounts so I can stick it on the roof as needed. This also serves to ensure the front edge of the roof cuts off the stray light that may cause glare on the hood. If it lights up the hood, I'll just move the bar farther back. Easy.Long story short, this works awesome. The adjustable magnet mount that I got work exactly as I thought. The single row light bar means it's lighter weight compared to other double or triple rows. It's also more stable because of its lower stance. If I were to use magnetic mounts on a tall bar, it could tip forward or slide when emergency braking. A large face would also mean more wind resistance and noise. I don't notice any noise from this compared to my friend's truck and his light bar. I did have to drive through the driving rain several nights ago at high speed on the highway for an hour and it held up great. No moisture whatsoever. Just because I'm not permanently mounting it on the exterior, doesn't mean I don't care about its water tightness. I also wanted to ensure CREE LEDs were in it. That's what high end light bars use and they do so for a reason. It's reliable. I know poor quality LEDs don't always cut it. They could give an off greenish tint, or generate too much heat compared against light output (low efficiency). Their reliability can definitely be questionable. CREE simply means that's one less thing to worry about. Overall, waterproofness is fine and brightness and quality of light beam look great. Th light output is very white and even. I'm very pleased. For this price point, it's worth every penny. The low profile also mean I don't have to worry about tree branches hitting and shifting it as much.
